November 27, 2007 9:00 A.M... Sesser City Hall

Members present: John Furlow, Angela Furlow, Mike Sulser, Joyce Gunter, Travis Severin, Harold Quick, Lowanda Johnston, Leondra Wilson, Jason Henry, Edie Hawk, and Ned Mitchell

The meeting was called to order by new President Angela Furlow.

No minutes of the last meeting were read

Treasurer report was given with a balance of $1946.75 in the General account and $1905.62 in the Oktoberfest account. A motion made and seconded to accept the treasure report as given by Lowanda Johnston and Leondra Wilson. Motion carried

It was noted that The Giving Tree paid twice in 2006 paying up 2007 and 2008.

The poker tournament had 14 players with a total of $1400.00 being raised and $700.00 going to the top three winners, $350.00 to the food pantry, $150.00 to Valente’s for the use of the building, and $200.00 profit to the chamber. Refreshments were donated by Anjo’s Pizza and Subway in Sesser.

Discussing revisions of by laws was tabled until a later date.

Mike Sulser reported that a Chamber Certificate would be printed at the Print Shop for each paid 2008 members. A motion was made and seconded by Mike Sulser and Joyce Gunter to start this project. Motion carried

A motion was made to purchase 500 self-addressed envelopes at the Print Shop for the chamber secretary to have. Motion made and seconded by Mike Sulser and Harold Quick. Motion carried

Ned Mitchell, owner of the Print Shop has the rights to printing the Rend Lake Adventures that is distributed to all the campers during the camping season. The chamber has decided to take an ad in the Rend Lake Adventures listing $50.00 paid members. If you want your business listed you MUST contact Joyce. You can do this by emailing Joyce at sesser@dtnspeed.net. Please include how you want the business listed and phone number. The name of your business will be listed and possibly the phone number depending on ad space. You have another option of placing your own ad for your business by contacting the Print Shop 625-5322 or printshop@dtnspeed.net the ad must be prepaid to be listed.

A cell phone was purchased for the chamber with the number 618-625-5566 being transferred to it. The phone will be kept by Joyce at the city hall if anyone needs to use it for chamber business. A $54.68 check was written to Angela Furlow for activation fees etc. and the 1st month bill in the amount of $49.38 was written to Alltel.

A motion was made to donate $35.00 to the giving tree for the Snack with Santa to be held at Valente’s Terrace on Saturday, December 8, 1:00 P.M - 4:00 P.M. Motion made and seconded by Ned Mitchell and Harold Quick. Motion carried

A motion was made to change the meeting time to the last Tuesday of the month at 9:00 a.m. at Sesser City Hall unless otherwise noted. Motion made and seconded by Ned Mitchell and Harold Quick Motion carried

The chamber website was discussed and we all decided to combine it with the City of Sesser web site. These sites will be updated and maintained by Business Images of Sesser for 2008. They were instructed by the Mayor Ned Mitchell to bill the City of Sesser for listing the web site on top search engines.

Oktoberfest planning meeting will be held Tuesday, December 4, 2007 9:00 A.M. at Sesser City Hall. If you would like help plan this event or give us your ideas please plan on attending. We will provide coffee and doughnuts. Our regular December meeting is cancelled due the fact the last Tuesday falls on Christmas Day. The next meeting will be held January 29, 2008 Sesser City Hall 9:00 A.M.

A motion was made to purchase a business size ad in the Sesser-Valier Tatler for the amount of $40.00 Motion made and seconded by Travis Severin and Lowanda Johnston. Motion carried

Meeting adjourned

Mayor Ned Mitchell talked on the plans for the new ball park. One new field will be built and paid for by the St Louis Cardinals. The land has been purchased by the City of Sesser and has been surveyed and cleared. The future complex will include four fields, parking area, walking track and possibly a soccer field and picnic area etc. in the future. Also coming in the future, the Rend Lake Bike Trail has plans on being connected to Sesser in the area of the old railroad tracks going to Old Ben Mine # 21.

Mayor Mitchell also talked on the TIF district formed in Sesser - he explained how a TIF District operates and the hopes of what it will do for Sesser as a community.
