ABOUT THE LAST FIVE YEARS:
The story of The Last 5 Years is one of life and failed relationships, told through missed connections, misunderstandings, and miscommunication. The play, structured as a series of very conversational, alternating, musical monologues, tells the story of a Jamie, a newly successful writer, and Cathy, a struggling actress. They love each other deeply, but are ultimately too self-involved to make their marriage work. Jamie adores Cathy's ambition, but is too caught up in his own projects. Cathy, on the other hand, adores Jamie's creativity, but resents his success and desires a stable home life. The show chronicles the difference between hearing someone and listening to them, and about making too many demands and too few sacrifices.
