In the City of Sesser, education is a priority. Sesser is close to several excellent and affordable community colleges including Rend Lake College and John A. Logan College as well as the nationally known university, Southern Illinois University-Carbondale (SIUC). Sesser-Valier Community Unit School District No. 196
Sesser-Valier Community Unit School District No. 196 is located in Franklin and Jefferson Counties and includes all or part of the towns of Sesser, Valier, rural Scheller, rural Mulkeytown, and rural Benton. There are approximately 725 students enrolled in the district in grades Pre-K through 12, and the School District educates its children in a single school building. The School District employs approximately 58 teachers and about 29 support personnel.
The School District, in an active partnership with parents and community, promotes excellence in a caring environment in which all students learn and grow. This partnership empowers all students to develop a strong self-esteem and to become responsible learners and decision-makers. The School District is committed to developing and using a visionary and innovative curriculum and a knowledgeable and dedicated staff.
